Welcome to Challenger Baseball

Home of the Falcons

Follow along as our team takes the Field!

Program Overview

The Boys & Girls Club of Redding-Easton’s Challenger Division is a program that enables developmentally and physically-challenged youth to enjoy the full benefits of Little League participation in an athletic environment structured to their abilities.

The philosophy is to give all children the chance to play baseball in a setting that is fun and supportive.  In Challenger baseball, scores don’t count - everybody is a winner. It’s all about acceptance, self-esteem, positive learning experiences and team spirit.

Program Management

Omik Kamat will be leading the program as on Field Coach with last seasons Coach Tim Aiezza managing the team.  Coach O has a degree in Sociology and a Masters in School Counseling. He is currently coaching the Boys and Girls Swim Teams at JBHS. Coach Tim is a behavioral therapist at JBHS and is an assistant Baseball coach for the JBHS Varsity Baseball program.

Buddies

Since many Challenger players require support to successfully participate, they are paired up with volunteer “Buddies” who become their personal guides. The players need varying degrees of support, but whenever possible, they are encouraged to be independent, with a Buddy close by to lend a hand, when necessary.   Buddies will attend a training session hosted by Coach O and Coach Tim early in the Spring.

Age & Participation Requirements

The Challenger Program serves the towns of Redding and Easton but also welcomes participants from other towns in the area including Bethel, Wilton, and Weston.  The program is open to all challenged players 5 through 18 years of age.  Buddies in grades 6 -12 are encouraged to participate.

Fee

The program fee is $60 for player and there is no cost for buddies for the Spring 2017 season.  Scholarships are available upon request.  Every program participant at the Boys and Girls Club of Redding-Easton pays an annual $40 membership fee in addition to any program fees.

Schedule

For Spring, home games will take place at the Boys and Girls Club of Redding-Easton at 170 Cross Highway in Redding.   Away games may include trips to Darien, Stamford, Norwalk, Wilton, Fairfield, Ridgefield and Greenwich. We are planning to include 8-12 games throughout the season.  Games will likely all be on weekends.

All practices will be on Wednesdays from 5pm-6pm at the Boys & Girls Club 50/70 field (The field closest to the red barn).  If the fields are ready in time, we plan to have our first outside practice on April 5th.  We will not practice during Easton-Redding Schools Spring Break.  Practice schedule is 4/5, 4/19, 4/26, 5/3. 5/10, 5//17, 5/24, 5/31, 6/7, and 6/14.
